What can you do to prevent harassment in the workplace?

Sexual harassment can range from lewd comments, slurs in spoken and written words, gestures, or touching writer has come up with aggressive workplace bullying that is a form of sexual harassment. It will always be unfair for any employee to have to go through a hostile working environment. Here’s how both employers and employees can make a big difference in stamping out harassment.

If you are an employee:

– Speak up. Use direct and assertiveness telling the coworker their behavior is unwelcome and that they should cease it. We work on the basis that any form of harassment, no matter how trivial it may seem, should be reported to your manager or your HR department as soon as possible. Record all occurrences in different forms, including, sometimes, dates, times, witnesses, and others.

– Follow policies. First of all, do not forget to check your employer’s anti-harassment policies so that you can know how things should be reported. There shall be a follow of all reporting procedures as stated above.

– Don’t retaliate. While it is not easy at all any form of retaliation or recurrence should NOT be directed to any one of the harassers. Replies in anger may be a criminal offense, although you were on the receiving end of the aggression.

If you are a manager or employer:

– Establish clear policies. Wiring an anti-harassment policy, all in writing, in your workplace that spells out what behavior constitutes harassment, how people will report it, and what will be done to respond. Make sure all employees go through the [statement] with understanding.

– Conduct training. Treat the entire company (across different levels) as workers, who need mandatory anti-harassment training and do it in short intervals. C Training should inform employees of things they are not allowed to do and develop proper handling of diversity.

– Act on complaints. All accusations must be treated with seriousness, investigated thoroughly, and fairly, and flagged if needs be. Always ensure that employees can report issues and whistleblowing is encouraged.

– Promote respect. Maintain levity and recognize employees as people in order to create a positive work attitude. Lead by example which means setting a proper example or standard that people in your organization would follow.

Workplace harassment is a problem that must be fought relentlessly by all in the workplace and society in general. That way, you contribute to creating a positive tone as well as make your employees more confident when it comes to performing their duties and not being threatened. We all have the right to go to work and not be sexually harassed or harassed in any other way.
